There are 8 hypogeums on the slope of Monte Minerva, inside shelters under the rock in among the Mediterranean shrub.
The hypogeums have a complex layout which originally had an external door providing access to a small, low chamber acting as a vestibule and a series of side cells, where the collective depositions of the dead were placed.
Particularly interesting are tombs I and II due to the presence of carved or engraved representations, especially one horn-shaped motif on the access door to tomb 2.
Follow SS 292 Monteleone Roccadoria-Villanova Monteleone. At approx. km 33.20, turn left (in correspondence with the sign indicating Palazzo Minerva) and continue along a local road for 3 km. When you come to the fork for Palazzo Minerva, turn left and continue for 1 km as far as the Palazzo. Park your car and continue southwards on foot along a path (on the left of the garden centre) which goes through the forest. You will pass two gates, one iron and the other one wooden after about 370 m; after another 150 m, climb up the crag, eastwards for about 70 m, as far as the wall where the tombs have been dug out.
