Nuraghe Burghidu, Ozieri

The Nuraghe Burghidu stands out against the Ozieri Plain. This is a quatrefoil Nuraghe. Of the four towers, only the north one is still standing to the height of about one floor, while the other three have mostly been destroyed. The north tower was the only one with a separate entrance, while the other three were interconnected along a corridor incorporated into the connection curtain wall.

The fortified tower has a remaining height of 14 m. In the past, it stood three floors high: the ground floor and first floor are still intact while only the bottom of the second floor has survived. The original access to the fortified tower is blocked by a collapsed wall and the ground floor has been partially buried. The tholos is made of well-cut trachyte blocks and consists of three niches arranged in the shape of a cross.

The site can be reached from the trunk road SS 729 then by taking the SS 132 and turning right (signed for Tula). There is an entrance gate on the right after about 750 m. Following the unpaved road (other gates to open and shut, if closed), turn right and you’ve reached the Nuraghe.
