Domus de Janas Tracucu, Lotzorai (2)

Domus de Janas Tracucu, Lotzorai

The site sits on the Tracucu hillside, and is part of the attractive granite complex of Bruncu Crabiola.

This necropolis has seventeen domus de janas. In a number of cases, the entrance has been delicately carved and finished with cornices and other decorations. In one of the tombs, the threshold has a large cavity in the middle, presumably for drainage purposes, to allow any liquids poured during libation ceremonies for the dead to drain away.

The site was the subject of archaeological digs which unveiled its use from the Copper age right up to the Bronze age.

It is easily accessible along the detour marked at km 2.9 on the country road S.P. 56 (towards Talana), on the left side of the carriageway. There is a path winding over the hill which can be used to visit the site on foot, marked with tourist signs providing access information to each domus.
