The necropolis has four hypogeums carved into the rock.
Nowadays, tomb number III is protected by a modern construction to combat the partial collapse of the roof and prevent atmospheric agents from further eroding the valuable decoration. It preserves a part of the paintings which decorated it, especially the bull’s horns painted in red.
The ceiling in the main room stylised the roof of a hut with joists outlined in negative and highlighted with narrow strips of red paint. The frames created by this even weave were decorated with other symbols linked to the world of death, like spirals, spared from the smooth coat of black which covers the entire vault.
The tomb is not open to the public and can only be accessed during cultural events.
From the Thiesi-Romana fork turn towards Romana and continue along the country road SP 50 for 5.4 km. Go as far as the tourist sign (on the right) indicating the domus de janas. Turn right and continue along the partially paved, partially track road (single lane) for 1.1 km. Here you’ll find an iron gate on the right providing access to the path leading to the hypogeum tomb. There is a tourist sign for the site to the right of the gate.
