The area of Ossi offers a rich archaeological heritage regarding a vast chronological period during which the pre-Nuragic era took on a permanent role. In the extensive and articulated framework of the island’s hypogeal architecture, the magnificent necropoles in the area produced important data regarding the awareness of the hypogeism phenomena.
Located behind the Sae valley below, the domus de janas of Littos Longos was the subject of archaeological digs in 1985.
It has a long corridor (dromos), of about 9 metres, with a short “pavilion”-style stretch behind the entrance to the tomb. The access hatch opens into the anti-cell. The latter leads into the central chamber from where it is possible to access another four rooms, preceded by finely produced entrance doors.
The hypogeum features the presence of bull’s horns and the remains of red ochre on the walls. The findings uncovered inside can be traced to the Ozieri culture.
From the town of Ossi, take via Grazia Deledda then the SP97 towards Ittiri. On the left, follow the road signs for the Littos Longos necropolis. At the intersection between via Noeddale and Via Littos Longos, follow the path leading down towards the countryside. You’ll see the site after about 60 metres on the left.
