The Nuragic compound of Romanzesu can be found in Bitti, immersed in an uncontaminated cork forest with granite outcrops.
It is a large village – sanctuary, clearly identifiable for its variety of architectural solutions.
It includes around 100 huts and various buildings for worship, constructed almost exclusively with local granite.
A holy well stands at the centre of the site, consisting of regular blocks of carefully worked granite stonework, arranged to create a false cupola. The flooring is paved and at the base of the wall is a counter-seat. The well is linked via a corridor to a circular paved tank, perhaps used for ritual ablutions.
Two rectangular temples (megaron) are located in the eastern part of the village.
Near the first temple is an oval shaped enclosure. Inside is a series of internal concentric style walls which create a labyrinth.
Another rectangular building, accessible from one of the long sides, has a paved flooring and some remains of a wide counter.
The village huts present different layouts. Five large huts have seating around the walls and were probably used for meetings.
Take the trunk road SS 389 from Bitti in the direction of Buddusò to reach the village. At 54.2 km, turn left and follow the tourist signs.
