The tomb of the giants of Su Monte ‘e S’Abe is a typical funeral monument from the Nuragic era. It is a collective tomb and one of the largest in Sardinia. It has a burial corridor, covered with horizontal slabs (header) and a semicircular front space (exedra), reserved for funeral rituals and marked off by large slabs (orthostates) secured to the ground.
The stele stood at the centre of the exedra, but only a fragment remains now which is still secured to the ground on the left side. The corridor is externally covered by an imposing stone grave and earth. The monument was probably built in two stages. The corridor probably dates back to the Ancient Bronze Age (XIX-XVII centuries B.C.) while the addition of the exedra and transformation into tomb of the giants would date back to the Middle Bronze Age (XVII-XIV centuries B.C.). The tomb was the subject of an archaeological dig in 1968.
Take the country road, SP24 towards Loiri to reach the site. At the end of the straight road after the Loddone bridge, turn right into Via Castello Pedrese. After about 2 km (firstly paved then unpaved) you come to the car park at the castello di Pedres. From here a short path leads up to the tomb.
