Tomba dei Giganti Coddu Vecchju, Arzachena

The Tomb of the Giants of Coddu Vecchiu stands on the slopes of a hillside area covered in vines, in Gallura’s hinterland.
This imposing collective grave probably housed the dead from the nearby village of La Prisgiona. It initially started out as a covered tunnel (“allée couverte”) but was later enhanced with a semicircular exedra which cordoned off the ceremonial area. The exedra has a series of slabs rooted into the ground, at the centre of which is a large, curved stele standing 4m tall. A small hatch at the base was probably used to place offerings in the tomb.

Take the trunk road SS 427 from Arzachena to Sant’Antonio di Gallura-Calangianus. At about 3km from Arzachena, turn right towards Luogosanto and continue for about 1.8 km. Turn left here for Capichera and, after about a few hundred metres, leave your car and follow the path on your right which, after a short stretch, will take you right to the front of the tomb.
