Su Notante, Irgoli Sacred Well

Su Notante, Irgoli Sacred Well

Downstream from the Janna ‘e Pruna sacred complex is the Su Notante sacred well, dedicated to the worship of water and built over an eternal spring which is still flowing today.

The well was built using carefully carved basalt ashlars. The sacred building still preserves the western side of its facade backing onto the natural rock from where the eternal spring flows. It is still possible to admire a stretch of enclosure wall in large blocks of granite, which slot into the fabric of the wall on the well’s facade.

Exit Irgoli and take the S.S. 129 towards Capo Comino. Turn left and follow the signs for the Janna ‘e Pruna archaeological site. Continue for about 12 km, climbing the Monte Senes slope until you come to the archaeological site on the right-hand side of the road.
