The decorative panel can be found at the entrance to the Palazzo dell’Enel overlooking viale Diaz and piazza Amendola; the building, on the other hand, is the work of a project by the architect Gigi Ghò (1915-1998) and was built between 1958-1961.
The relief is the work of a local artist, Eugenio Tavolara (Sassari 1901-1963). Produced using the bas-relief technique in stone and coloured cement, it dates from 1962 and was the last work produced by the artist.
The decoration reflects the artist’s typical work in that decade, though it differs in the choice of shapes. The shapes, in fact, are linked to the topic in question: electricity; a topic which initially led the artist towards an abstract solution, as is clear from the three preparatory plywood studies, resolved in the final work with images allusive to electricity, like the trellis and the anthropomorphic sun which, encapsulated in a circle, almost seems to be a wheel moving the remaining mechanisms.
