The Nuragic compound of Sa Mandra ‘e Sa Giua sits in the eastern suburbs of Ossi, in the Litterai neighbourhood. The area includes a village of huts which surround a Nuraghe whose central tower is visible, but which falls into the category of “complex tholos”.
The so-called “house of bread” stands out from the other huts in the village thanks to its shape and meaning. It is a round hut with paved floor, surrounded with seats and a rectangular tank. The room is enclosed in a larger walled structure which also includes the area where the oven is. This initial interpretation as the “house of bread” comes from the presence of the oven next to the hut. More recent excavations and research attribute a religious function liked to the worship of water to this kind of room.
