Nuraghe Su Nuraxi, Siurgus Donigala

foto di Maily Serra

The Nuraghe Su Nuraxi sits in the centre of town, right behind the parish church of San Teodoro. Of the monument compound, only the central tower is currently visible. 16 opus isodomum-like limestone blocks stick out above the modern treadable floor. At the top, the join with the second ogival room on top of the first one, can just be made out. At the moment, it is not possible to distinguish the complete shape of the Nuraghe. Indeed, the area is covered with a vast underground space. The entrance, located lower down, has only been partially uncovered by the archaeological excavations. There are structures from the Roman era, visible nearby while a considerable Byzantine necropolis was uncovered during excavations inside the tower.
