Nuraghe San Marco, Genuri

The archaeological site of the Nuraghe San Marco lies in the eastern suburb of Genuri, at the foot of the Giara di Gesturi. The polyfoil Nuraghe has a main tower (fortified tower) and three side towers joined together by a thick defence wall. A well was dug in the courtyard. A defence wall, it too complete with minor towers, further encircled the compound. The monument was built in the Early Bronze age (1400-1200 B.C.). The structures were continually occupied up until to the Byzantine period (VII-VIII century A.D.).

The central tower is circular, with niches and access to the inner staircase which led to the upper floor. Two of the side towers not only have internal niches but have perimeter walls drilled with embrasures.
