Giardino megalitico - Spighe, San Sperate

The Megalithic Garden can be found in the town centre; it is a municipal park with works on display by Pinuccio Sciola (1942-2016), the sculptor from San Sperate.

Created in the 1970s, it has a number of stone sculptures positioned and arranged in the shady space under the large trees. The series of benches arranged in a semicircle around a circular stage recreates the idea of an ancient theatre. The other works inspired by Sardinia’s megalithic art depict menhirs, stele and spikes; the latter being a throwback to Pinuccio Sciola’s farming origins.

The urban green space was designed by the artist as a meeting place for the town’s people and often hosts artistic and cultural events.
