Complesso Nuragico Lu Brandali, Santa Teresa Gallura (SS)

The Lu Brandali nuragic compound sits along the slopes of a granite promontory and on the surrounding plane. It includes a Nuraghe, a village, a tomb of the Giants, various tafoni and under-rock shelters.

The Nuraghe makes the most of rocky planes spread across several levels. The central fortified tower is surrounded by a defence wall where two towers and a curtain wall with monumental access are still identifiable. 36 curvilinear huts with masonry facing and wooden roofs have been identified as part of the village. Between the area of the huts and the Nuraghe, we can find around twenty tafoni with living and burial functions. Downstream, we find the tomb of the Giants, with a main elongated unit with apsal ending and a semi-circular exedra with rows of stonework.

Remarkable marine fauna remains were uncovered at the site, which bear witness to fishing activity. The remains of numerous species of fish were uncovered: the brown wrasse, cuckoo wrasse, moray eel, sea bream, snapper and an example of Scombridae (Thunnus or similar genre). Even though it was not possible to identify the species, it was most likely a small-sized tuna.

From Olbia, port area of Isola Bianca, to Arzachena take the SS 125 as far as the fork for Palau; turn left at the crossroads onto the SS 133, which merges directly into the SS 133 bis and go as far as Santa Teresa Gallura. Without entering the town, turn left onto the road for the baia di Santa Reparata, where you will find the nuragic compound.
