Complesso Cabu Abbas, Olbia

foto di Andrea Mura

The archaeological site of Cabu Abbas stands on the peak of the mountain with the same name, in an incredible panoramic position dominating the Golfo di Olbia.

Only a small part of the elevated section still remains of the single-tower Nuraghe built using granite blocks. Accessing the central chamber, we find a part of the staircase which led to the upper floor which has now collapsed, two niches and a well.
The entire area was cordoned off by a large defence wall built using large stone blocks. It was 220 metres long and 4 metres thick and stood 5 metres high which, in order to adapt to the roughness of the terrain, encompassed the rock’s natural protrusions in certain parts.
There were two entrances to it carved out of the stonework.

Leave Olbia via the Circonvallazione Ovest towards Golfo Aranci and once you reach the industrial area, turn left into Via Rughittula (opposite the Cerasarda plant) and then turn right into via S’Iscoglia. Continue along via S’Iscoglia which at times is unpaved and follow the road signs to the Nuraghe; the last stretch of the road is narrow and uneven in parts. Leave your car in the open space with the benches and fountain and continue on foot along the slightly uphill path.
