Archaeological site of Janna 'e Pruna, Irgoli

The archaeological site stands on Monte Senes, dominating the valley of the River Cedrino and its magnificent surroundings. This is a series of sacred monuments, arranged into a trail linking the valleys of Cedrino and the Rio Siniscola.

The temple of the same name stands on the Janna ‘e Pruna crossing. Built using blocks of well-cut local granite and arranged in even rows, it is preceded by a sub-rectangular atrium. The atrium leads into a circular cell with central fireplace and a counter along the wall.
The temple was surrounded by a trapezoidal sacred enclosure. In the space opposite the building of worship, inside the enclosure, an elliptical courtyard was used to place votive offerings.
Outside the enclosure was a circular structure paved with granite tiles. An additional walled enclosure, nowadays only visible in certain parts, cordoned off one of the semicircular spaces opposite the temple, probably reserved for welcoming worshippers visiting the sanctuary.

Exit Irgoli and take the S.S. 129 towards Capo Comino. Turn left and follow the signs for the Janna ‘e Pruna archaeological site. Continue for about 12 km, climbing the Monte Senes slope until you come to the archaeological site on the right-hand side of the road.
