Civico Museo Archeologico “Alle Clarisse”

The archaeological museum was previously housed in the former San Francesco convent, but since 2003, it has been housed in the former convent of the Poor Clares, built in the mid-eighteenth century. Since it was restored, it has become a multi-purpose cultural centre with a variety of uses.

Four of the building’s rooms house an extensive archaeological collection, with findings uncovered in the area of Ozieri: the prehistoric section preserves originals and copies of the most important findings from the San Michele cave, especially the finely decorated pyxides, the Mother Goddess cult figures and a obsidian core.

The Nuragic section houses findings dating back to the Bronze and Iron ages, including the magnificent ox-hide bar, with its tanned leather shape, produced entirely in copper from Cyprus.

In the Roman section, complete female and ornamental belongings are on display as well as findings linked to trade and worship.

There are other items dating to Medieval times uncovered in Bisarcio: buckles, clasps, decorative items like earrings, rings and necklace beads.

On the upper floor, in the old convent cells, there is a coin collection, representing a historical period that includes Greek, Punic and Roman coins right up to those from the House of Savoy. All the other spaces, including the fully accessible attic, are set aside for temporary exhibitions.

In the place of arms, we can find a lapidary collection with materials from various eras.
