Sorgente Su Gologone, Oliena (NU)

The Su Gologone spring pops up in the Supramonte di Oliena, an area rich in nature, archaeology and geology.
Thanks to its the plentiful flow which reaches 10,000 l/s when at its fullest, it is the most important spring in Sardinia. In 1998, it was given Natural Monument status.

Its unusual conformation is what makes it so appealing. Flowing out from a crack in the limestone rock, the water fills the recesses between the rocky walls, forming what could seem like a picturesque lake.
Its charming colours which range from turquoise to green, conceal a secret: the depth of these waters is still unknown.

Thanks to this feature, Su Gologone attracts speleo scuba divers from all over the world. In 2010, the Italian, Alberto Cavedon touched the bottom at a depth of -135 metres.

A creek stems off from the spring, flowing through vegetation until it joins the Cedrino river.

From April to September, you can hire a kayak directly from the Su Gologone Park and navigate the canyon created by the river. In the area around the spring, you can stop off for a picnic in the shade of the forest of Mediterranean shrub and eucalyptus. It is equipped with an eating area, tables, and a children’s play area.

Take the country road SP46 towards Dorgali for about 6 km, then turn right and follow the road for Su Gologone to reach the park and the Oliena spring.
