Nuraghe Is Paras, Isili (SU)

Located not far outside the residential area of Isili, along the trunk road SS 128, the Nuraghe Is Paras is an elegant complex Nuraghe surrounded by a village.

The chamber of the central tower, with tholos roof standing 12 metres high, in prominence against a three-foil stronghold, is magnificently preserved intact.

The name ” is paras”, meaning “the priests”, derives from the fact that the land on which the monument stands belonged to the Piarists for a long period of time. At the start of the XX century, the Piarists started to demolish it to build a wall to cordon off their property. The Town council opposed this because the Nuraghe was used by the whole village to control their livestock from the summit where they grazed nearby.

Access to the site is supervised by a cooperative offering guided tours.

The site can be found near the town along Via Grazia Deledda.
