Lake Corsi is a vast artificial basin originating from the stopbank on the Rio Canonica, in the municipality of Iglesias.
The stopbank is known as the Punta Gennarta dam (417 m a.s.l.), from the mountain on which it rests. The dam was built between March 1959 and May 1964 and received its approval check on 26 July 1971. The structure includes a lake with surface area of around 76 hectares, for an overall volume of around 12.70 million cubic metres.
To the west, towards the edge of the lake lies the Vallata delle Quattro Stagioni. The area takes its name from an aqueduct with statues depicting the four seasons.
The natural panorama of the area is that of the nearby forest of Marganai, rich in numerous fauna species and a variety of endemic flora species.
Crossing the slope opposite the lake, on the northern side, it is easy to reach the equipped area of Marganai and from here, along the paved road, you’ll come to the small town of San Benedetto, which originated as a mining village at the end of the nineteenth century.
The area is part of the Site of Community Importance (SCI) “Monte Linas – Marganai” (ITB041111), regulated by the Rete Natura 2000.
