The natural monument known as “Su Stampu ‘e su Turrunu” can be found in the area bordering the municipalities of Seulo and Sadali, immersed in the unpolluted nature of the Addolì forest, between Barbagia and Ogliastra
It is a completely unique monument as it is simultaneously a sinkhole, cave, spring with waterfall and lake.
The waterfall formed amidst the sedimentary Jurassic rocks of the Tacchi, boring through the huge rock sheets under the eroding force of the water.
The waterfall creates a drop of 16 metres and flows into a small cave where there is a lake. The river, known as Longufresu (rio Trassadioni), continues its course downstream.
The forest vegetation leaves room for aquatic plants, mosses and climbing plants, which cover the rock walls.
The karstic phenomenon whose uniqueness and beauty are exceptional, immersed in the forest of Mediterranean shrub, together with the sound of running water have earned this site the title of genuine “water landscape”, making it one of the most attractive natural monuments in Sardinia.
The site can easily be reached along the provincial road S.P. 8 exiting at Sadali. The route extends along an easily accessible path and is well signed. The area also offers a wealth of other important naturalistic sites like the caves of Is Janas (Sadali) and the Domus de Janas caves (Seulo).
