Spiaggia di Portixeddu, Buggerru (SU)

Foto di Alberto Deiana

The beach of Portixeddu can be found in the coastal town of the same name, in western Sardinia in the municipality of Buggerru.

The beach is also known as Rio Mannu thanks to the river that flows into the northern part of the sandy shore. To the south, we find the area of San Nicolò.

The beach extends for a further 2 kilometres with different sectors surrounded by high dunes. It has a mid-fine sand, which is a light ochre-yellow colour. To the north, we find the Perdischedda reef with some natural pools and gullies between the rocks.

The seabeds instantly become deep with crystalline, transparent waters. This stretch of coast has always been affected by strong currents which require greater attention when swimming there.

Behind the central section of the beach, we find an extensive Is Compinxius pine grove where there are also picnic areas.
This pine grove is of naturalistic importance as it represents the only place in Sardinia where the stone pine (Pinus pinea) was recognised as a native species. Indeed, on these dunes next to recent reforestation areas, which began in 1958, there are numerous wild stone pine woods with some specimens dating back centuries.

The beach is equipped with a kiosk-bar and you can hire beach equipment here.

Portixeddu is part of the Sites of Community Importance (SCI) “Is Compinxius – Campo Dunale di Bugerru – Portixeddu” (ITB042247), regulated by the Rete Natura 2000.
