The beach of Calamosca (or Cala Mosca) can be found in the city of Cagliari, only four kilometres from the city centre.
It is a small cove enclosed within the reefs of the Capo Sant’Elia promontory. The cove is dominated by an old coastal lookout tower, built by the Spanish in the XVII century, as part of the anti-Barbareschi defence system in the Golfo di Cagliari.
The shoreline extends for little more than 100 metres and has cream-coloured large-grain sand, mixed with a variety of coloured pebbles. The rocks, which continue towards the cliffs, emerge in the western sector of the cove.
The sea water is clear, and its colours vary from emerald green to sky blue, with a gradually sloping seabed.
The beach is under a terracing where the car park is located and can be reached down a flight of steps. There is a kiosk-bar and services for renting swimming equipment on the shoreline.
