The s’Istrampu de su Segnore gorge can be found in the district of Villanova Monteleone, not far from the coastal road between the towns of Bosa and Alghero, on the western coast of Sardinia.
It is a torrential gorge, carved out by the river of the same name, from the typical volcanic rocks in this area. Its characteristics make the gorge a place of environmental and geomorphological interest.
Following its flow, the river is subject to a series of three falls. The second one in particular is difficult to reach and is the start of the waterfall of the same name, s’Istrampu de Su Segnore.
The route to reach the gorge and follow the flow of the river winds along a path immersed in a wood of holm oak and Mediterranean shrub. The entire route is clearly marked with safety measures in place. Between the first two waterfalls, you can hold on to a kind of cord handrail for support at the steepest points.
The site is part of the Sites of Community Importance (SCI) “Hinterland and coastal area between Bosa, Capo Marargiu and Porto Tangone” (ITB020041), regulated by the Rete Natura 2000.
