The Santa Barbara Woods are situated in the area of Perdasdefogu, in the province of Nuoro.
The wooded area is home to a chapel dedicated to Santa Barbara and is fitted out with tables, barbecue areas and water fountains. There is also a children’s play park, a small amphitheatre and a small courtyard.
This area is also home to a Speleology School. The speleologists from the Federation of Sardinian Speleologists regularly come here to explore the caves, sometimes as yet undiscovered, with a limestone bottom in Perdasdefogu.
The wood features Mediterranean shrub with plants of holm oak, strawberry trees, juniper, phillyrea, heather, wild rosemary, honeysuckle, rockrose and thyme.
From a fauna point of view, there have been sightings of boar, the fox, the wild cat, the weasel, the porcupine and among the birds, the partridge, the barn owl, the falcon and the wood pigeon.
The recreational area, which is the entrance to the wood, is next to the Bruncu Santoru Nature Reserve, another nature site worth mentioning in this part of Sardinia.
