Sa Rocca Pinta is an unusual rock on the western coast of Sardinia, in the area of Villanova Monteleone.
This natural monument made up of grey-purplish volcanic rocks, emerges from the shrub in the walls running alongside the country road, S.P. 105 which from Bosa heads towards Alghero.
The rock can be found at around 300 m a.s.l. under the Punta Badde Iana plateau (498 m a.s.l.).
Its naturalistic and geomorphological, as well as panoramic importance comes precisely from this unusual rock (called ignimbrite), formed from the solidification at sea of ancient volcanic ash.
Sa Rocca Pinta is part of the Site of Community Importance (SCI) “Hinterland and coastal area between Bosa, Capo Marargiu and Porto Tangone” (ITB020041), regulated by the Rete Natura 2000.
