The Terramaini Park is an urban park in Cagliari, within the metropolitan city area, in southern Sardinia.
The Park is in the north zone of the city, in the area on the border with the municipality of Pirri. It covers a surface area of around eleven hectares, running along the banks of the Riu Saliu (channel of Terramaini).
This green area was created recently and was opened in May 2006, following a long period of re-qualification of the area which began in the 1990s.
The park is almost entirely covered by vast green lawns, surrounded by hedges of typical essences of Mediterranean shrub , such as myrtle, carob, olive, rosemary, phillyrea, strawberry tree, pine and mastic tree. There are also some species from other geographical areas such as palms, ficus and ornamental plants. Precisely on the foliage of the palms and the tallest trees, a number of parakeet families and multi-coloured parrots living in the park have found their home.
In the northern part of the park, you’ll find a small wetland now the home of different species of bird, including a small colony of pink flamingos. The pool is protected on its banks by rushes and a long wooden walkway offering a glimpse of the birds without creating disturbance.
Inside the park is an area for dogs, isolated from the rest of the park by a hedge with enclosure. There are tables, sports equipment, a kids’ play area, a small amphitheatre, kiosks and an eating area.
