The Funtanamela Park can be found in the location of the same name, just a few kilometres from the town of Laconi, in the province of Oristano.
The park is immersed in the state-owned forest of Funtamela which spreads for around 479 hectares on the border between the provinces of Oristano and Nuoro.
The geology of the area is linked to the presence of Mesozoic chalky rocks which often lead to the formation of caverns and caves.
The vegetation is dominated by the presence of holm oak and high shrub with Mastic tree, phillyrea, rockrose, juniper, strawberry trees and in some areas even the Ostrya carpinifolia.
In 1998, the Sardinian deer was reintroduced to this area. The deer live alongside the breed of Sarcidano small horses and other typical animals in the local Sardinian fauna.
The park sits precisely in Bau Onu, where the river of the same name flows, the rio Bau Onu. The river flows over rocks forming meanders and waterfalls.
The area has a bridge, picnic tables and water points.
There are a number of marked paths branching off from here towards the waterfalls and into the forest.
