The Biderosa Oasis (or Bidderosa) can be found in the municipality of Orosei, in the province of Nuoro, on the eastern coast of Sardinia.
The oasis has five coves sitting within a nature reserve of around 860 hectares, of which the best well known is the beach of Biderosa.
This beach is the driving force for the oasis. Extending around 400 metres, the cove has a sandy shore with a clear, fine sand. Larger grain sand and shingle appear at either end, near the emerging granite reefs.
The Biderosa Pond’s wetland lies behind the cove. It is common to spot flamingos resting here, as well as other aquatic-bird species.
In general, all the coves have similar characteristics, with fine sand and low seabeds. The small sand dunes there are home to samples of sea daffodils and are surrounded by a wood and shrub with specimens of juniper, pine and holm oak.
The oasis also includes the Sa Curcurica lagoon, a name which brings to mind the common morhen in the dialect spoken in Orosei.
Car and motorbike entrance is restricted from May to October. There are no seasonal entry restrictions by bike or on foot, but you need to comply with the rules to protect and preserve this natural site.
Tourist and trekking excursions are available through the oasis management in the company of Environmental Excursion Guides.
The oasis is part of the Site of Community Importance (SCI) “Berchida e Bidderosa” (ITB020012), regulated by the Rete Natura 2000.
