Located at the foot of Monti del Gennargentu, Fonni has based most of its economy on agricultural and sheep rearing, but in recent years, it has introduced a programme to enhance its traditions and history.
It is precisely from this perspective that between 2001 and 2013 the town commissioned a cycle of murals by the artist from San Sperate, Angelo Pilloni, which celebrates the area’s artisan side. One example is the murals of the wool spinner, in via Umberto I.
Still in via Umberto I, using a strong realistic and naturalistic component, Pilloni celebrates Fonni’s connection with horses in a mural, a bond which is expressed in the traditional Palio di Fonni event, first held in 1985.
