The monument is located in the centre of the square of the same name at the heart of the old town centre; it is dedicated to the giudicessa di Arborea who between 1383 and 1403 fought against the Aragonese forces. Her fame is linked to the Carta de Logu, a piece of legislation introduced by her father and rendered so modern by the giudicessa that it remained valid until 1827, replaced by the code promulgated by Carlo Alberto from the House of Savoy.
The monument stands on a tall octagonal pedestal decorated with bronze bas reliefs depicting the promulgation of the Carta de Logu and the battle of Sanluri. The sculpture of Eleonora d’Arborea sits on the high pedestal. She is wearing a crown, flowing tunic tied with a belt and cape; the giudicessa is shown with her right hand pointing to the sky, while holding a title block related to the Carta de Logu, in her left hand.
The sculpture in academic and idealised style is the work of the Florentine sculptor Ulisse Cambi (1807-1895), unveiled in great solemnity on 22 May 1881.
