The museum was opened in 2000 by the Town of Calasetta with the works from the collection donated by Ermanno Leinardi. Established as the MACC museum in 2011, it provides documentary evidence of abstract art, from lyrical and informal abstraction to geometrical abstraction.
From the masters of the 1930s (J. Albers, M. Radice, C. Badiali), to supporters of the Concrete Art Movement from the 1950s (Soldati, Veronesi), from the range of groups and organisations involved in the field of Cinema and the Visual arts from the 1960s and 1970s (B. Munari, G. Capogrossi, L. Fontana, E. Leinardi and numerous others), to the group of Sardinian experimenters (A. Atza, G. Campus, R. Rossi, V. Satta, I. Utzeri, G. Brundo, Z. Calzia), particularly enriched with a personality to be explored. The Museum rotates a selection of works that follow specific topics and a series of coherent thematic exhibitions for the purpose of promoting abstract art.
