Lake Is Baroccus, also known as Lake San Sebastiano, lies north-east of the town of Isili, in the region of Sarcidano.
The lake, of artificial origin, includes the is Barrocus dam which contains the Mannu River.
The basin is also replenished by water from the rio Corrigas. It also carved out the imposing cliffs of limestone rock, which formed around 23 million years ago, when most of Sardinia was still under water.
The church of San Sebastiano, stands in the centre of the lake, on the island of the same name. The island is a natural pillar of rock, only accessible from the lake. Its image reflects in the lake’s water creating a delightful view with light reflections and colours.
Thanks to its unusual features, this place has become a popular sports tourism destination, from recreational fishing, to rowing, climbing and trekking.
In particular, the walls of su Pizzu ‘e Nedda, attract climbing enthusiasts with its narrow gorges and attractive canyons.
The Trenino Verde also runs through this area along the lake side towards Sorgono.
