The Montano Linasia Garden is an example of a botanic garden immersed in the trees of the Marganai Forest, in the municipality of Iglesias, in the province of Sud Sardegna.
The name “Linasia” comes from the nearby Monte Linas massif. The garden sits at a height of around 720 m a.s.l., in the “Case Marganai” district, where the service buildings for the state-owned Marganai Forest are located. Connected to them are the small “Casa Natura” museum, a conference room and a large guest house.
The introduction of the various species to the botanic garden was done together with the reconstruction of the most important plant environments in Sardinia. There are a large number of botanical specimens, from those found in the Marganai forest and the site at Monte Linas, to a moderate number of local species, from various mountain areas on the island. These include some rare species like the helichrysum of Monte Linas, the Armeria sulcitana and the Sesleria insularis Sommier.
The plants have a small identification label with its scientific name, botanical family and area of distribution.
The Montano Linasia Garden is open to the public all year round, but we recommend contacting the Linasia Cooperative which manages it. The best time to visit is in spring when the plants in the garden will be in flower.
The area is part of the Site of Community Importance (SCI) “Monte Linas – Marganai” (ITB041111) regulated by the Rete Natura 2000.
