The Maidopis Botanical Gardens can be found in the district of the same name inside the Foresta dei Sette Fratelli, in the municipality of Sinnai.
This nature site was created in a wood thanks to the Inforesta project. The purpose of the project was to provide and share information regarding the botanics and fauna in the Sette Fratelli forest complex.
The Garden is split into four theme areas which are spread out along a teaching itinerary, in the area. The following are studied here: Forests and sclerophyllous plants, despoiled shrub and garigue, rocky environments and, wetlands.
Along the way you can observe all the important botanical species found in Mediterranean flora, trees, bushes, endemisms of Mediterranean flora and, in particular, the endemic species of the Sette Fratelli forest.
The itinerary through the Garden has also been designed to be accessible to blind and differently abled people with or without a companion. The path has a cord handrail, stop-off points with tactile information panels and wooden boxes containing flowers, leaves or seeds of relevance to the stop-off point.
The path also crosses the rio Maidopis over a wooden bridge.
Alongside the botanical garden is the enclosure for the re-population of Sardinian deer and it is not uncommon to be approached by these animals.
There is also a classroom in the garden, an eating area, info-point and toilets.
The Maidopis Botanical Gardens are part of the Sites of Community Importance (SCI) “Monte dei Sette Fratelli e Sarrabus” (ITB041106), regulated by the Rete Natura 2000.
