Funtana Is Arinus, Nurallao (SU)

Foto di Claudio Kalb

Funtana Is Arinus can be found in the municipality of Nurallao, in the province of Sud Sardegna.

The area is a portion of forest around an old spring, where a nature park and area equipped with water points, places for making a fire and wooden tables have been set up.

There is also a car park and an area equipped for camper stops.

The Funtana is Arinus park is immersed in the green hills of Sarcidano, at a height of around 600 m a.s.l., amidst oak trees, holm oaks and a luxuriant Mediterranean shrub.
The geology of the area features limestone rocks in the Formazione di Dorgali. This geological formation consists of dolomite rock, arenaceous dolomite rock and dolomitic limestones, with the presence of the remains of algae fossils.

The Rio Sarcidano runs not far from the equipped area and forms different-sized waterfalls. This includes the most famous waterfall Su Craddaxioleddu which in periods of full flow, reaches a drop of around 15 metres.

As well as its naturalistic aspect, this area also offers importantarchaeological sites. Indeed, not far off, is the Nuraghe Nieddiu, next to which we can find a holy well and one of the largest megalithic burial grounds in the Mediterranean: The Tomb of the Giants of Aiodda.
