The forest of S’Acquafrida can be found in the forestry compound of Monte Arci, between the municipalities of Santa Giusta, Pau and Ales, in the province of Oristano.
The forest extends across an area of around 387 hectares, with altitudes of 155 m a.s.l. (Punta Pira Inferta) and 760 m a.s.l. (Conka ‘e Seda).
The geology of the area features acid effusive rocks known as Rhyolite and Rhyodacite.
The forest consists mainly of holm oak and cork trees, interspersed with phillyrea shrub, Mastic tree, rockrose and strawberry tree.
Inside the forest there are a number of springs and rivers which are torrential and seasonal.
The fauna populating the forest is typical of Sardinia, with the presence of boar, foxes, martens, weasels, Sardinian hare and wild rabbit. The birds include goshawks, jays and buzzards.
There are a number of equipped areas in the forest. Precisely in Ales we find, with the same name, the equipped area of s’Acquafrida (where there is also a spring which gives its name to the area).
There are tables and areas for lighting fires, as well as a small children’s play area.
Marked paths also stem off from this area to visit Monte Arci.
