Complesso nuragico Sos Nurattolos

The Sos Nurattolos complex stand at around a thousand metres in height on a granite plateau from where it dominates the plateau of Buddusò and the surrounding valley.

The site includes a sacred spring, a megaron temple and a few huts.

The sacred spring can be found inside a round courtyard complete with side access via some steps. The rectangular layout has an antis facade. The main cell has benches built into the walls and round well chamber with Tholos roof still intact. There is a large circular hut inside the courtyard, perhaps a service room linked to activities of worship.

On the top of the high ground stands the “megaron” temple, with rectangular layout and side walls jutting out which stretch for a considerable height. The temple is surrounded by an elliptical enclosure. The enclosure also includes an unusual structure with two circular rooms one behind the other, apparently with no entrances.

Not far off, higher up, the excavation work brought to light a large hut with bench-seating at the base, of the kind known as “meeting huts” found in numerous Nuragic villages.

From the centre of Alà, follow the signs for the Sos Nurattolos archaeological site. Once you reach the parking area, leave your car and follow the path with steps leading to the top.
