Cala Coticcio is in the north-west of the island of Caprera, in the archipelago of La Maddalena, in northern Sardinia.
The cove is one of the most attractive in the Archipelago, so much so that it has earned the nickname of “Tahiti”, for its resemblance to the famous Polynesian beach.
The cove has two sandy shores, separated by red coloured granite rock, the same ones surrounding the entire bay. The sand is fine and is a clear, translucent colour, an uninterrupted continuation of crystal-clear shades of the sea. The seabed is shallow and the waters are calm and protected against the wind.
Around the cove grows luxuriant Mediterranean shrub with juniper, rockrose, the Mastic tree and heather.
The cove is part of Zone A of the Parco Nazionale Arcipelago di La Maddalena and is covered by a full environmental protection order. Swimming is allowed but fishing is forbidden. It can be reached by sea with authorised boats or across land, along a trekking path, over the rocks.
