Beach and WWF Oasis in Scivu

The Scivu beach sits on the west coast of Sardinia, in the municipality of Arbus, along the coastline known as Costa Verde.

The beach has a golden sand, extending for about 3 kilometres, surrounded by a highly esteemed natural habitat. The sea water appears to be particularly transparent, with colours ranging from emerald green to light blue.
The seabed, close to the water’s edge is mainly sandy. Further out, we find channels and rocks which, in places show signs of the ancient coastal lines, which are now fossils.
The beach is exposed in full to the winds and rough seas caused by the Mistral wind, and great care should be taken when swimming when the wind is blowing.

A dune system extends along the coastline populated by juniper, mastic-trees, broom and sea daffodils. Tall reddish sandstone rocks emerge at either end, covered in Mediterranean shrub. The sea beds are rich in sand steenbras, gilthead bream, sea bass, croakers and greater amberjack.

The coastline starts from the WWF Oasis in Scivu, which in turn is part of the Geomineral Park of Sardinia and the Sites of Community Importance or (SCI) “Capo Pecora” (ITB040030) and “From Piscinas to Riu Scivu” (ITB040071).
With more than 600 hectares of protected land, it is one of the most important areas of nature and landscape in Sardinia.
The fauna living in this area includes the Sardinian deer, which roams freely. The Oasis also includes a cork forest covering around 150 hectares, hovered over by Peregrine falcons, kestrels and buzzards.

All these unusual aspects make Scivu one of the most attractive stretches of the Costa Verde.

While being isolated from residential areas, the beach has a car park, an area equipped to cater for camper vans, restaurant and bathing facilities. Furthermore, the coastline can be easily reached along a wooden walkway, crossing the dunes without damaging them.
