Baccu sa Figu, Talana (SU)

Baccu sa Figu is a wooded area in the district of Castiadas, in the historical region of Sarrabus, in the province of Sud Sardegna.

The area is part of the more extensive Castiadas Forest connected to the forestry compound of the Monti dei Sette Fratelli.

The forest grows on soil originating from the granite rock typical of Sarrabus, and of ancient Palaeozoic origin.

The flora is characterised mostly by holm oak, cork oak, wild olive and juniper. The undergrowth and shrub include myrtle, mastic tree, strawberry tree, thyme, lavender and heather.

From a fauna point of view, it is not uncommon to spot boar, rabbits, hares, martens and wild cats.

The area has an abundance of water. Indeed, the rio Baccu sa Figu stemming from the spring of the same name, flows through here.

This area, given the proximity of the centre of Castiadas, was, in the past, strongly subject to human activities including the production of charcoal.

Baccu sa Figu is part of the Parco Regionale dei Sette Fratelli – Monte Genis, extending for around 60 thousand hectares across the municipalities of Burcei, Castiadas, Maracalagonis, Quartucciu, Quartu Sant’Elena, San Vito, Sinnai, Villasalto and Villasimius, making it one of Sardinia’s largest parks.

The park is also part of the Sites of Community Importance (SCI) “Monte dei Sette Fratelli e Sarrabus” (ITB041106), regulated by the Rete Natura 2000.

Currently, the area is equipped with tables, small bridges and areas for lighting a fire, making it a comfortable spot for a picnic. A number of marked paths branch off from here as well as trekking paths which cover the entire park.

However, what is missing is a proper car park.
