The vast plateau of Villanova Monteleone extends across the area which, from the town of the same name, continues towards the sea, in the direction of the western coast of Sardinia.
It is an area rich in forests, rivers and belvederes, which are easy to reach.
The geology mainly features reddish-grey trachyte volcanic rocks.
The vegetation includes scarce or thick cork wood, holm oak and Mediterranean shrub. Vast areas of the forest are badly damaged, and there is a tendency towards the transformation into shrub and at times in meadows.
The important natural elements include the Rio Laccanu which gives its name to the waterfall of the same name.
One of the best-known places is the Punta Ena Tunda, on the western crag of the plateau. This is an excellent and easily accessible belvedere which dominates the coast of Villanova and the Alghero-Bosa coastal road.
The plateau is part of the Sites of Community Importance (SCI) “Hinterland and coastal area between Bosa, Capo Marargiu and Porto Tangone” (ITB020041), regulated by the Rete Natura 2000.
