The beach of Cala Pira lies in the area of Castiadas, along the southeastern coast of Sardinia.
This beach extends for about 500 metres, a bay enclosed between two promontories of granite rock, typical of this part of the island.
The cove is the mouth of the rio Su Strumpu which forms a small wetland in the central-eastern part of the beach.
The sandy shore has a fine, white sand with unusual shades of pink. The seabed is low and gradually slopes out into the deep sea.
There is a dune system behind the beach, with the dune colonised by herbaceous species typical of this area. Luxuriant shrub grows in the surrounding area, in the promontories, with juniper, euphorbia and mastic tree.
A particularly uncontaminated area up until the 1980s, the area was mainly used for agricultural purposes before attracting the tourist industry.
Nowadays, the beach offers parking, a kiosk and bathing facilities.
