Cala Portese, Isola di Caprera, La Maddalena (SS)

Cala Portese is in the south-east of the island of Caprera, in the archipelago of La Maddalena, in northern Sardinia.

More precisely, the cove lies in the stretch connecting the Island of Caprera to the peninsula of Punta Rossa (or Isola Rossa), in the area known as the “Due Mari” (Two Seas). Due to the conformation of the isthmus, on the opposite side from Cala Portese, there is another small shoreline, exposed to the south-west.

The shoreline of Cala Portese faces north-east and is enclosed in a bay of pink granite rocks. The beach has clear-coloured, fine sand and the seabed is low , with a gentle slope. The beach is surrounded by a small dune system, colonised by juniper and mastic trees.

The cove is part of the Parco Nazionale Arcipelago di La Maddalena and is covered by a full environmental protection order. It is easy to reach and there is parking, an eating area and bathing facilities.
