Spiaggia di Simius, Villasimius (SU)

Foto di Claudio Kalb

The beach of Simius lies in the area of Villasimius, along the southeastern coast of Sardinia.

It is the beach closest to the centre of the seaside village and extends for more than a kilometre, surrounded by granite rock promontories.

The sandy shore has fine, white clear sand, while its seabeds are low and gently slope out to sea.

The central and southern parts of the beach have a dune system where a variety of plant species grow, both herbaceous and bushes, including juniper.

It falls under the protected marine area of Capo Carbonara and is, therefore, safeguarded.
It was also the subject of research in two different protection projects in the LIFE+ Nature & Biodiversity programme, devised to protect the dune habitat and the Posidonia oceanica meadow.

The beach has plenty of bathing facilities, kiosks and restaurants.

As well as falling within the protected marine area, it is also part of the Site of Community Importance (SCI) “Isola dei Cavoli, Serpentara, Punta Molentis e Campulongu” (ITB040020), regulated by the Rete Natura 2000.
