The Is Caddaias Natural Pools can be found along the flow of the Flumendosa, bordering the municipality areas of Gadoni and Seulo, in the province of Nuoro.

Along its course, the Flumendosa river forms a series of small waterfalls (the highest being around 8 metres) which leads to the formation of a series of three pools, enclosed by metamorphic rocks typical of this part of the island: the grey phyllites of Gennargentu. The basins appear on three different levels and are joined to one another by waterfalls.

The place name Is Caddaias refers to the large basins (or pots) used by shepherds to curdle their cheese, known in the local language as “is caddargius”.

All around, a holm oak and downy oak wood flourishes with the undergrowth enriched with essences of Mediterranean shrub. Near the water, there are oleander and other bush species that grow close to the river.

The site is accessible along a trekking path, which is quite long and arduous, passing under the magnificent bridge, standing 110 metres high between the areas of Seulo and Gadoni, above the deep, narrow gorge excavated by the meander of the Flumendosa.
