The beach of Lu Impostu, also known as Porto Brandinchi, can be found in the municipality of San Teodoro, on the eastern coast of Sardinia.
Little is known about the origin of the name, indeed Lu Impostu means “shipping place”, perhaps in reference to a trading outpost or goods loading area.
Nowadays, it is one of the best loved beaches along the Gallurese coastline, extending for around one kilometre, enclosed between the rocky granite promontories of Punta Aldia (to the south) and Punta Capicciolu (to the north).
The sandy shore features fine, clear sand, with a few emerging rocks. The seabeds are low and mainly sandy with a gentle slope out to sea.
Behind the beach, we find a small dune field, of considerable naturalistic importance, where juniper, mimosa, Marian thistle and sea daffodils grow.
A wetland of the Catranzolu pond extends out behind the dunes and is frequented by a number of different bird species.
The beach can be easily reached and is kitted out with a kiosk and swimming facilities.
