The State Archive in Nuoro is an associated institute of the Ministry of Culture.
It was established as the Archive Section under the Ministerial Decree of 15 April 1959 and, in 1963, it was transformed into the State Archive.
Its current-day headquarters is in the heart of the city at the foot of the Sant’Onofrio hill, and it is a temporary headquarters housing the administrative offices, extensive study room, a well-stocked library and document storage areas.
The State Archive’s documented heritage covers 2 km of shelving.
These are resources from State judicial and administrative bodies which worked and continue to work in the province of Nuoro. It includes notary deeds from the districts of Nuoro, Oliena, Bosa and Cuglieri; but also the Archives of abolished religious orders and school Archives.
The timeline in question spans from the end of the 1800s to the second half of the 1900s. The only exception is a deed from 1503, stipulated by a Notary from the District of Bosa.
The documentation can be consulted for reading, studies and research purposes free of charge. If you can’t get to the Institute in person, you can carry out your research remotely.
The library is home to a heritage of around 13 thousand volumes, is part of the Sardinian Regional Centre for the National Librarian System and its database can be consulted via OPAC.
