Santa Maria is a rural church in Vallermosa, about a kilometre northeast of the town centre. The current-day building of worship built in the XVII century A.D. replaced the previous Medieval church probably built between the XI and the XII centuries A.D.
The church was originally built on the ruins of Roman baths, most likely dating from the III century A.D. and a part of this structure was used for the church. The majestic ruins mean the imperial layout is still clearly visible. In particular, one of the side walls is preserved next to the church facade, as far up as the shutter on the barrel vaults. Built making use of bricks and limestone blocks, they may have been re-used in the Medieval church. The oven used to head the complex (in Latin praefurnium) is also clearly visible.
